Is there any treatment for facial warts?

August 27th, 2008 by admin

I've heard warts drop off if left but I've had one on my face for about 6 years and I really want rid of it.

What can I do that won't cause scarring?

Warts that appear on the face can lower anyone's confidence and their self image. Types of warts that can appear on the face can be flat warts, juvenile warts or common warts. Facial warts are caused by the Human Papilloma virus (HPV) virus and can be very contagious. Since they appear on your face it's most people want to get rid of these as fast as possible.

Facial warts (usually in the form of flat warts) come in many sizes and many shapes as well. They can actually be mistaken for pimples. While facial warts may fall off on their own after a long while (if you have a strong immune system), people still want to take action and get rid of them sooner. Most people want to get rid of them for cosmetic reasons. However you need to treat facial warts to keep them from spreading. The biggest concern when choosing wart removal treatment is scarring so it's best to choose something that is not harsh on the skin.

One such treatment that has little chance of leaving a scar is Cryosurgery (Cryotherapy). It is the most common surgical method to remove warts. You will need to see your doctor for this procedure. Cryotherapy involves using extremely cold temperatures to freeze the wart and kill affected or damaged cells. This procedure became popular in the 1960's.

The goal of the procedure is to free the wart tissue to a point were it forms a blister and which later separates from the affected skin. Then the body's immune system should eliminate the remaining dead cells.

Cryotherapy usually isn't too painful. However, it can be very uncomfortable. Sometimes, the freezing numbs the surrounding skin tissue of the wart. When your doctor freezes your skin, it will feel as cold as an ice cube. After the procedure you may feel a burning sensation as your skin thaws. It can take several visits and months before the warts fall off and the healing process can take from one to two months. The procedure has been known to leave scars on occasion. However, most people leave with little damage to their skin. Also please note the chances of the facial wart returning are quite high.

If you feel that cryotherapy is not an option, you could also try natural home remedies to remove facial warts. Using natural methods to remove warts are not as harsh on the skin and practically painless. Also, some natural methods get to the root of getting rid of warts by killing the virus. So the wart never comes back.

Usually, popular household ingredients are the best for the removal of facial warts. Also, as we discussed most conventional methods are harsh on the skin. It its best to start with simple home remedies for a while before seeing your doctor for more abrasive measures that can cause discomfort and pain.
